The Exceptions Desk is one queue of everything that currently needs a person — across all the reconciliations — ranked oldest and most serious first. Instead of checking six screens, you check one.
How to work it:
- Start at the top. The ranking is the priority call — age and size, not category.
- Open an exception to see its blast radius: what it touches, since when, and the drill to the exact documents behind it.
- Resolving records, it doesn't erase. You capture who resolved it, when, and why — for the audit trail. The fix itself happens in the source system, and because exceptions are recalculated from current data, an item marked resolved while the underlying difference persists will reappear. The desk can't be used to make a problem look solved.
On a good day the desk is nearly empty — and shows you what it checked overnight, so the empty screen is proof of coverage, not silence.
